Concepts of Classical Conditioning
i was going through my computer and i remembered my previous assignment regarding classical conditioning.
Concepts of Classical Conditioning
1. Generalization
· Ali was summoned by a traffic police on the day he drove over the limit, so he had to slow down. After a while, when he sees any police in uniforms, he would slow down driving by the police.
· Step 1 : NS NR
(policeman) (no response)
· Step 2 : UCS + NS UCR
(being summoned) (policeman) (slow down)
·
Step 3 : CS CR

(all police) (slow down)
(Generalization)
2. Extinction
· Sarah has a cat, named tompok. Everytime she calls her cat ‘meow-meow’, the cat did not come to Sarah. Then she starts calling meow-meow and present the cat ‘friskeys’ (cat food), the cat come for the food. Sarah did that for several times, pairing meow-meow with friskeys. Later, she call meow-meow without presenting the food, the cat still come forward. She repeated this, calling meow-meow without food a lot of times. After a long time, her cat does not come, when she calls out meow-meow without friskeys . Extinction occurs.
·
Step 1 : NS NR

(meow-meow) (no response)
·
Step 2 : UCS + NS UCR

(friskeys) (meow-meow) (cat come)
·
Step 3 : CS CR

(meow-meow) (cat come)
·
Step 4 : (after a long time) CS NR

(meow-meow) (no reponse)
EXTINCTION
3. Spontaneous Recovery
· Ahmad was a hafiz, he memorize the whole Quran by heart, since he studied in a Tahfiz School. He used to read the Quran and listen to another Qari recite the Quran, so he can memorize it better. After he completed his studies, he’s occupied with his work, therefore did not have time to re-memorize the Quran. As he was listening to the radio one day he listened to the Qari reciting the Quran, he was surprise with himself that he could still remember the ayat as clear as the first day he memorized it.
·
Step 1 : UCS + CS UCR

(read the Quran) (listen to Qari) (memorize the Quran)
·
Step 2 : CS CR

(listen to Qari) (memorize the Quran)
·
Step 3 : (after a long time) CS CR

(listen to Qari) (still memorize)
Spontaneous Recovery
4. High-Order Conditioning
· Siti adores a man who wears blue tie. One day she saw Asyraf wearing a blue tie, her heart starts pumping very fast. After that she keeps on seeing Asyraf wearing a blue tie. Ever since that, she start to have feeling s for Asyraf, the next time she met Asyraf, he wasn’t wearing the blue tie, but she still have a crush on him. When Asyraf gave her a box of chocolate, she feels excited and her heart pumps very fast
·
Step 1 : NS i NR

(Asyraf) (no response)
·
Step 2 : UCS + NS i UCR

(blue tie) (Asyraf) (heart pumping fast)
·
Step 3 : CS i CR

(Asyraf) (heart pumping fast)
·
Step 4 : CS i + NS ii CR

(Asyraf) (Chocolate) (heart pumping fast)
·
Step 5 : CS ii CR

(chocolate) (heart pumping fast)

after fajr
Assalamualaikum,
may my previous post help better in memorizing.. if you find it hard to wake up early in the middle of the night, then maybe should try after fajr prayer. like i did today when i couldn't wake up at 4.30 even though i've set my alarm clock. due to tiresome this whole week all the due dates and last midterms and tests plus i'm having this weird cold that blocks my nose to make it worst for my concentration.
anyway, when i wake up for fajr, i still have time to memorize 2 pages of al-Baqarah for my 8 o'clock class. =) Alhamdulillah it went smooth.

Busy bUsy buSy busY
Assalamualaikum,
busy with assignments due this week, presentation, and hafazan (memorization) and so on.
i just realised that the best time to start memorising is before fajr, around 4.30 am. when there were no lights and no other noise. it was peaceful. that is the perfect time to memorize. our brain functions well when we are calm ...
try it.. at the same time we could wake up for tahajjud as well....

Intermittent Schedule
Assalamualaikum,
last time i had promised to tell about the Intermittent Schedule. it is divided into two ; Ratio and Interval.
Ratio Schedule : when the reinforcer is given after a certain amount of response. it is divided into two ; Fixed Ratio and Variable Ratio
Fixed Ratio is when the amount of response is consistant with the reinforcer. for example every 4 pages you read a day, you will be rewarded with 10 marks, or every 10 pages you read you'll recieve a token or a gift.
Variable Ratio is when the amount of response is not fixed upon recieving the reinforcer. for example, today Safiyya finish up 3 ayat's for memorizing, tomorrow she'll memorize 5 pages only then she'll be rewarded, the day after tomorrow she did 7 pages but did not get any reward as yet on the 4th day she'll memorize 8 pgs then she'll be rewarded.
As for Interval Schedule, it is also divided into two ; Fixed interval and Variable Interval.
Fixed interval is the reinforcer is to response after each x minute. the reinforcer depends on the time that response took. for example, if you read the quran for every 30 minutes a day then you'll get a rest.
Variable Interval is when the time of responses are not fixed with the time, for example if Ali read the Quran ofr 10 mins then 15 mins then 8 mins then 6 mins, only then shall he be rewarded, let say with a game.
for further info, if you wish to see the results of these schedule :

Reinforcement Schedule
Assalamualaikum,
i'll continue on the reinforcement subject matter. Reinforcemnet schedule is divided into two; continous reinforcement and intermittent reinforcement.
today i'll discuss about the Continous Reinforcement.
it means that every response is reinforced or rewarded. in other words, every actions that were percieved as good will be rewarded. therefore if we would apply it in our memorizing schedule, every page that we memorize each day should be rewarded either by someone else or by oneself. by letting you play game for half an hour after you had finish memorizing a page.
i remember when my nephew and niece stayed over at my parents for the school holidays, i taught them qiraah, the iqra. they are about 6 & 7 years old, still learning how to read the arabic alphabets. they were quite reluctant and lazy to learn and read. so i gave them sweets everytime after we finish reading 1 page a day. it continues everyday like this, he even added 2 more pages as we go on. but later on my sister took over teaching them the iqra and she didn't reward them with anything, so they say that : cik anna used to give us sweets sp where's our sweets?
but my sister never did give them anything. so later on their will to read faded instantly.
hope this will help you understand more....
